For her work in mentoring, research, and advocacy for gender inclusion in STEM, Dr. Adewumi has earned her one of five spots in the pioneer Afretec Inclusion Champion Award and a complementary $5,000 grant to expand her impact. She was awarded this honour at the Afretec Gender in STEM Forum on February 11, 2025.
As an Associate Professor at the University of Lagos and the Acting Director of InnovateUNILAG – Innovation and Technology Management Office (ITMO), she has:
- Established and grown the UNILAG Collegiate of the Society of Women Engineers from 30 to nearly 200 female students
- Launched SWE Next Clubs to introduce secondary school girls to STEM
- Led the 2024 Afretec Innovation Challenge, advancing research and tech solutions
- Secured a $15,000 ANSYS Grant that has impacted 800+ engineering students
- Created paid internships for female engineering students through industry partnerships
